I have a florescent light and i wanted to change to something that would help my plants grow. What lighting can i use that will be good enough to use in a Discus set up? I want to change my 40g tank to a Discus heavily planted tank. I need to know what lighting i need for my plants to be lush and green. I am on a budget although it doesn't have to be too cheap.

It depends on whether you want to add CO2 or not. I've heard that discus do not do well in heavily planted tanks with CO2.

If you don't want to go with CO2 you'll want to stay below 2wpg. In your other thread you said your tank is 4 ft. long. Is the bulb also 48"? If so, I'd suggest adding one more. Two T8 bulbs, around 6500K, would be a good amount of light for any low light plants and maybe a couple mid light ones that are more forgiving.
