At the risk of appearing stupid , can soomeone please explain to me the difference between t8 lighting & t5 ? i am looking to upgrade the tubes on my Juwel rio 125 tank and was going for t8 , but as i was leaving work someone mentionmed t5 ...........

T8 are 25mm in diameter, where T5 are 16mm, T8 is an older style tube which do not put out as much light as a T5, but the price reflects this.

You can upgrade your Jewel light to T5, but you have to replacing the hole light fittings, there quite pricey to.

Unless your planning a serious planted tank where you want to cram loads of light, or you just want to spend the money, i wouldn't bother IMO.

Thanks simon , we just want the plants we have to flourish , i thought getting t8 tubes & a co2 system should do the trick . Do you agree ?

I got some arcadia lights today. I got the freshwater lights 18w, 24" http/www.arcadia-uk.info/product.php?pid...an=en&sub=&id=4
They fit my rio 125, so get them ones. I noticed a reall difference, my fish's colour is so much brighter and they seem really good, and dont get as hot.
They arent T8s or T5s though.
I think the difference between T5 and T8 is the number of light spectrums they give? Or power output.
