Hello Everyone!

I'm curious to hear what you all do regarding the lighting of your tank, as in how long per day. I want to be greedy and have the lights on pretty much from 8am until 11pm because I want to see the fish all the time. I know they need a minimum amount of light but is there a max that is healthy? It's worth noting that I don't have any live plants in my tank.

I do work during the day so I could change my timer to come on at say 3pm - 11pm but then I think when I'm at home during the weekends the greediness kicks back in and I want to see them all the time but that would throw their "routine" off...right?

OR am I thinking about this waaaay too much?

not an emergency per se!

if you have your lights on from 8-11 you will get major algae problems. Photoperiod for non planted tanks should be around 6hrs id say, because for planted tanks its 8hrs.

Someone more experienced will come along soon though :)

Mines nonplanted and i have the lights on from, when i wake up till when i go back upstairs which is usually around 6/8 hours.

Oh man! Sorry it was a total accident to post in this section - can a moderator please move this to Tropical Discussion or somewhere more appropriate please?

Whoopsie!
