I'm a little confused - easily done though.

I posted earlier about not using lighting while I cycle the tank, not a problem. However, I am doing research on the actual lighting requirements. The old (lost) hood had a single tube in it for a 48x12x12 tank, which seemed to work. Cannot remember the specs of the tube, it was what was given to me at the time.

Now I've lost the hood, and I'm looking to get some new lighting sorted - as I'm making my own hood I'll be getting something like these: Arcadia Fixtures but I am absolutely stumped. All the difference between wattage, lumens, temperature has caused a meltdown in my brain.

What is optimal for my tank - I'm not planning on a real planted setup, but getting good-quality artificial/silk plants. I will be mostly looking at Amazon-based fishes - my previous favourites, although I haven't got as far as planning yet. My only compromise last time was some lovely three-spot Gourami's in the mix. Would I only need 1 brighter light or two slightly lower wattage? Argh! Confused! Everything else is slowly coming back to me, but this is really confusing me!!!

A single 4' 6500k-10,000k bulb is all you'll need. Doesn't need to be of high watts, you just need to illuminate it in a color and brightness you like.
