i currently have my lights on for 8 hours a day tank is 4x2x2 planted with echinodorius bleheri ( spelling?) echinodorius ozelot vallisneria america ( gigantea) hygrophila polysperma and some crypts ( cant remember which one) . is 8 hours lighting a day ok? its just that i have read on a couple of other websites that amazon swords require 12 hours good light a day .i do not use co2 but i dose with flourish excel and tpn

8hours is fine.
No plant NEEDS 12hours of light a day, infact no plant needs any longer than 10hours.
I guess they have not offered any explanation as to why 12hours is needed?

nope no reason was given it was in a plant profile i was reading . right now my lights are on timers so 1 tube comes on at midday then half an hour later the other 2 come on , they are on for 8 hours then the 2 tubes go off followed half hour later by the other tube. the only reason i stagger them like that is for the fish so that its not sudden change from dark to full light and vice versa .
thanks for the reply . i will leave it as it is .
