What would be the best light (that will work with my set up) to get these plants to grow without making the green water worse? Do I have to get the same kind and power? Can I go a little larger? I have been looking and can only find this one and one more. Thats all. If there are better options out there what and where are they????

Also... I think my filter has a part missing... I saw a replacement one online, and it came with a tube and something(not sure). I don't have it and don't know what it is for. Anyone know? Do I need to get one?(what ever it is)
This is my filter

On the top of the box is a little button like thing that shoots water out when it is on. That is where they had the tubing.

Do I need something there? If so what? And what is it for?
Please help me...
Thanks! :good:

Hiya looks like your light is more suited for a marine type setup, it seems to be 50% atinic and 50% daylight, you would be better off getting rid of it and replacing it with something more suitable for plants, it may be the cause of the green water, it certainly won't help matters, I would replace it and then if the green water persists (although it does not look to bad) try a blackout for a couple of days, cover the tank totally and block out any light, that may get rid of it.

Sorry I dont recognoise the filter setup, can't help you there.

Replace it with what? I pretty much knew I needed different lighting. I don't know what I can replace it with though. I also don't know where to get them. I don't know what I am looking for. There is so much I don't know.
I need more info PLEASE!
Thanks :good:

The type of light you have in your fitting is known as a power compact, so replace it with the same lamp but just one suitable for a planted setup, I can't really advise you as to which one there may be different end fittings (pins) for your lamp holder. Any aquatic online retailer should stock something suitable, just look for the correct end fitting and any tube around 6500k will be fine for your needs, I would replace it with the same wattage, a 24w.

Just keep reading the threads around here and you will pick up lots of information as you go about planted tanks.

Thank You.
All the sites I have found so far only carry 2 in that size/wattage. The one I have, and one that is 10,000k. I can't find anything other than those 2. Are there more choices, or are those really the only 2?

Anything on the missing part?

Interpet do a 24W Daylight Plus and Triplus T5 power compact, but I am not sure if you get Interpet in the US.

Can't get it here. Any more ideas?
All I can find (searched hundreds of sites) is the 50/50 or 10,000k.
10,000 is too much isn't it? What would happen if I put a higher wattage lamp in? I can't find the right k temp without going up on the wattage a little. This is so frustrating!
Help!

I did several searches to see what the origional lighting was and if choices were listed there. No luck. I can't even find the tank anywhere. The only thing I found was the filter pump replacement, no other info. I can't even locate a maker to find out. It doesn't have any info on the tank either. I don't even know if the light in it is what should be there. Nothing.
Any info would be greatly appreciated about the light and filter.
Thanks :good:
