Lighting Issues With Juwel Rekord 600

Hi guys,
Hope I'm posting this in the correct section, if not please let me know.

I have had a Juwel Rekord 600 for around 4 years now and the lighting unit seems to of given up the ghost. I've tried replacing the bulb, changing the fuse and checking connections, wires etc to no luck. Can anybody recommend a solution, whether it be changing the hood completely or putting in a new lighting rig. I don't really fancy messing with the electrics of the current lighting.

Any advice would be excellent.

Hi, have you tried changing both lighting tubes? 
 
I have a Rekord 800 and I know the light unit is on a loop system so if one tube blows neither will work. It could be that both tubes have blown and so unless you change both it won't work.
 
You can generally tell if the tube has blown as they turn grey/black at one or both ends.

Hi Akasha, It's the model with only one tube light so i've tried changing it but it still didn't work.

ahh sorry, I wasn't aware that it was like that. I was basing it on my 800 which has two tubes.
 
It sounds like the unit has packed up then. Have you had a look on the Juwel website? there may be more clues there. I know we had another member last week with a problem with a Juwel tank and he contacted them - they did get back to him fairly quickly so that might be an option. I'm not certain but I have it in the back of my mind that Juwel tanks come with a 5 year guarentee

Hi I have a Rio 125 and it has a starter unit in the top of the tank it could be that that's gone I have to lift a panel that is concealed in the top I'll take a pic and share with you
It is hidden under a panel that will come of with a little persistent's

hmm that's interesting oscarman, I'm rapidly trying to remember if my 800 is like that but from memory I think the lid is all one piece (my 800 is in the shed and I can't get to it)
 
It would seem though that all these Juwel tanks are the completely different. You'd think from a big brand there would be similarities with the build across the range but there isn't. Each tank seems to be completely different. 
 
I know my Rio 240's light unit is a seperate unit with two flaps that slot on. A new light unit for it is over £100. The smaller Rekord 800 - everything is built into one complete lid that sit onto the glass. If the light unit goes on that I believe you have to buy a complete new lid and to be honest it's probably cheaper to just buy a new tank!
 
I like Juwel as a brand but spares are expensive. I think the best thing the OP can do is contact Juwel and ask them for advice. There's a contact section on their web-site

I thought that about mine till I had the same problem but I also new that all tube lighting has to have a starter unit but I could not find one till I noticed a sealed compartment that was hard to get in to but low and behold there it was under the sealed compartment

I had a Juwel Lido 120 a few years ago and the light unit went in that. Try as I might I couldn't get into the unit without wrecking the whole thing (which I did) and ended up buying a new one (not cheap). I love their tanks and their internal filters are top-notch; their light units, meh, not so much.
 
Much of the time these days they don't tend to use ballast capacitors anymore relying instead on electronic ballast and as such when they break, they are truly broken.

I used a thin but strong knife and slowly went along the edge of compartment and prized it a part it is stuck with adhesive so have to be firm but just slowly work your way along and it should come lose that's how I did mine but if you don't want it falling off every time you take the lid off you will need to reseal as you brake the seal.

common sense says it'll need to be a waterproof re-seal too as condensation could then get into the electrics and that's not a good combination

Thanks for your help guys.  I ended up going to my local shop over the weekend and bought an Interpet LED duel light rig which i screwed into the hood and it works brilliantly, easy to set up and use and I would recommend it highly.  I will upload a picture when possible.
