OK, hubby bought a T8 Starter unit on eBay, and it is the wrong one. My question is, will it still work, or will it blow the bulb? The unit is for 42"-48" bulbs and says it is 36-40watts Our bulb is 30W and 36" long. Do I need a new starter?

Sadly yes :(. Mixing and matching flourescents and ballasts is not a good idea. The wattage, length, and bulb diameter all need to match. They can work, but they will not work well and may risk fire if its too far out of spec
