just a question

firstly how do i get rid of the lite stain on the top pieces of glass, with out replacing it(gives me the ####s the lite on the bottom looks like theres a big cloud over it) seeing i cant use any chemicals :grr:

and secondly how do u keep it off so it dont come back

I'm not sure what you mean.

Do you mean there's a stain caused by light?
or the staining is light, as in not very bad?

what has caused the stain? hard water? meds? algae?

i mean the pieces of glass that the light sits on, always seems to go a whitish colour and blocks the lite going into the tank in blotchas. (acutally quite noticable)

it miten be lite but seeing that the lid that doesnt have the lite on top of it doesnt have it i think the lite has something to do with it?

i dont use meds. so that rules that out
as for algae occasionly i get that on the glass but that washes straight off
and hard water ive got no idea the ph lvl is a little over 7 at the moment.

I think it must be a chemical buildup due to hard water. I'm guessing you have very hard water where you live. It happened to my old 10 gallon, it was disgusting. Unfortunately there is really nothing you can do short of chemicals, which will kill your fish.

Yup :/ I get it here and I got it the last place I lived - both places have really hard water. I just use a paper towel with water on it to clean it off - the trick is to catch it before it gets really bad and it's much easier to clean!

i have hard water too same thing happens ..when i do my monthly 25% water chg i use one of those scrubbie algae glass cleaners with water its like a scoring pad, but use one from the fish store not an SOS no soap works pretty good, if its tough stain a lil vinagar works too..try it!!!!

Hi darksheep :)

If it is residue from having hard water, try putting it in the sink and putting some white vinegar on it. Let it stand for a while to dissolve and loosen the build-up, and then rub it with a plastic scrubbing pad. It might take a few treatments, but it should do the trick.

Be sure to rinse it thoroughly when you are finished. :D
