I bought a 20 gallon tank combo a while back with 15w light. It reads marineland eclipse natural sunlight. I currently have some java moss, amazon swords, some onion like plant and grass like plant in there. I want to get more plants soon but I haven't decided on what kind yet.

Do I need to upgrade to something higher? or different type of light?

actually, for a standard 20H, I would go with at least two watts per gallon.

you could do what I did and buy a 2 20 watt bulb flouresent fixture from Home Depot, Phillips Plant/aquarium bulbs, an extension cord, and two woden pieces fro the ends.

itll cost you altogether about $50.00 bucks, but in my opinion, its worth it.

You are a bit low on light at the moment.

2 Watts per gallon is good enough for most common "Easy" plants. Browse Tropicas plant list to find plants that match your water and lighting.

Hey Guys,

You can check the following thread on another forum, http://www.plantedtank.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4240

Its a 29 Gallon tank with a 20 watt bulb and doing fine... you just have to pick the right plants.. you won't have have the growth levels of better lit aquariums but at the same time you won't be consuming as much nutrients and you won't need CO2. The tank will actually be very low maintenance
