Lifespan of Platies?

Hi all,
I read recently that guppies only live approx 12-18 months. What is hte expected lifespan of platies? and also, any idea how old they are when you would get them from the lfs?
A friend told me that guppies are usually at least 6 months old at the lfs, so that means if I am really lucky I will still only have them for a year!
Hoping platies live longer?

I have platys that are 3 years old (approx), but they don't live much longer than that. Depending on the LFS you will get them between 4 and 8 months old.

it is good to know that if I can get my 2 remaining platies over this hump that I will still have them for a while

I've had lots of platies over the years and would say that they normally live 2-3years with 3yrs being extreme old age. They generally stop breeding by the end of the second year.
