Could anyone tell me where I can find information about the lifespan of fish in captivity. I would hate the think I wasn't doing the right thing to try and prolong longevity, but at the same time appreciate it probably varies from species to species and don't want to be looking for non-existent problems if my fish are naturally reaching the end of their lives. I see references to potential length, but not so much to lifespan.

Thanks

Some species of cories like Bronze are said to live up to 30 years. 15 is more likely. A guy I know on another board has some Peppered Cories going on 15 years now. Some fish like Guppies or Killies live at most 2 years but more likely 1. Clown Loaches can live 10-15 years. So it really depends on the species of fish you have.

i think one of the rules is the larger the fish the longer it live. That is usually true althouggh there is an exeption.

There's a recently discovered species of marine reef goby whose entire lifespan from egg to old age is 17 days!

Wow! That's pretty amazing, Sirminion.

I also didn't know cories could live that long. I know common plecos can live to 25 years. Mine is only about 5 years old, so hopefully he will be with me for several more years :)

Whenever I'm wondering how long a certain species lives, Google has proven useful :)

200 years is likely due to living in a true coldwater climate. Tends to slow the aging process. 200 is quite a stretch but I'm not discounting it wholly. :)
