I was just wondering if anyone has ever came across a betta other than VT in the LFS in the UK?
I dont think I have ever seen any other than male VT and possibly either a female or maybe a male plakat but I couldnt tell the difference!
The colours I see are always blue or red, the only 2 different I have seen I bought lol, 1 was a yellow VT and 1 was a white VT.
What have you come across in the UK?
Oh and I was wondering aswell, where I got my yellow VT and my white VT they were the only ones of that colouring in the store, wouldnt they of had siblings the same colour...? Or were they just a random one of that colouring in a spawn of blues/reds???
Sorry if I sound really dumb

just vt's.Ive brought a male as a feamel and he turned hmpk.Theres always some tiny males in with the females.

Ive only ever seen 2 females and that was at 1 store. They were sooo cute but they werent for sale :( everywhere else Ive been its all been VT males and that possible plakat male or 1 random female at a store that only had males!

im able to get hold of HM and SD now
the yellow one you got is a lightened colour of red as its a mutated gene, the white, all betta originated from the wild black gene but this is masked by the usual reds, blues, greens, im guessing that the white is a fish that is lacking the black gene but must be a highly mutated red....i might be wrong on that but it was worth the thought of how it could be :hyper:

ooo, what colour HM have you come across Modaz? ANything special like blue butterfly or are they pure blues/reds aswell?
HM are my FAVOURITE!!!

give me a minute will get photo up

this is my boy i got 2 months ago, he came with all his finnage battered to hell, he was displayed as HM and was hiding in some plants and the back of the shop, he was thought to be SD but now hes turned HM as stated so next week should start a spawn with a 95%black and 5%metalic blue SD/HM female, im hoping that BF might come from fry but who knows until it happens, prob is i have no genetic history on either, depends on what genes are dominant.
do you breed or are you gunna start?

the HM ive come across in LFS are multi or deep purple, they must be rejects from somewhere

i have only ever came across VTs usually red ones, its rare to have a blue VT in there let alone any other tail types saying that i got some red and blue females from there also VT

come to Northampton they have some lovely colours round here....there is also a shop just outside Northampton where they have cts for £3.50 and they are really good will phone you when they have them in...have you tried asking in any of the lfs if they will get a colour or tail type in? ours so :hyper:

My betta is a CT - deep orange with purply-blue on his body near the tail and streaks down into his tail. The LFS hac a couple of other CTs, but this was the nicest, and they were all the same price as the VTs at £3.50.

Found a few PKs around, mainly labelled as females. Found a CT once, although he was a tail biter and ended up looking like a messy SD.

both LFS I worked in kept female VT as a stock item.
the last place I worked at also got crowntails in as a regular thing (especially If I did the order)
I have only once seen another betta on an order form and that was for betta pugnax,
but by the time the order went in they had sold out :/

Where was that essjay? Just with me being in the teesside area I wouldn't mind having good look around before settling on a betta when my tank is sorted.

Mandiemoo, it was Peter Barratt in Eaglescliffe of all places! I think they'd just had a delivery. There were several sad looking bettas in those 4 inch glass cubes, and about 2 dozen in bags floating in a couple of tanks, which I assumed were new ones (This was a Saturday and I think they get deliveries Thurs or Fri). The ones in the bags looked healthy and alert, mine was flaring at his neighbours. They haven't had nearly so many in since (I got mine 5 weeks ago), so it's probably worth finding out when they are getting more in before you go.

Ahh I know them well haven't been in there for a while (some of the sales people in the aquatic area don't seem to know too much about what they were talking about). I will have to have a pop along or give them a ring.

Thanks for that.
