OK, well I called my LFS today and they told me that they pay cash for guppies. They pay 1/2 of what they will sell them for. I have seen guppies there ranging from $1.99 a pair to $4.99 a pair depending on the type. The solid strain ones go for $3.99 a pair and then the usual "half black something" ones are $2.99 a pair. The $1.99 a pair ones are probably the ones they buy from people because they are just labeled "Assorted guppy pairs".
I have some yellow snakeskin fry and soon to have 3/4 blacks... hopefully they will not be mixed as they were already pregnant before placing everybody in my tank. Worse case scenario is that I'd get at least $1 a pair. Over the long haul that sounds like it would be enough to buy food and water conditioner and maybe another 10 gallon tank. What do you guys think?
Out of all my hobbies this is the least expensive one by 100 fold, but yet it pays for itself! I just hope that I don't get sucked in too far. We'll have to see!
