Hi There,

Just got a 5 in 1 test.

Here's the resaults:
nitrate 0-10mg/l
nitrite 0-1mg/l
General hardness >10*d
carbonate 3*d
PH 7.2 - 7.6

can you help me explain these? are the levels ok?

My other test kit "filter check" showed leves of nitrite to be .5mg/l so added a nitra-zorb to the filter - was it ok to do this?

Have a 12G tank with 4 black widow tetras

A 5 in 1 test is better than nothing - but not as good and accurate as individual liquid tests. You can get an excellent master test kit for around $15 or £15 by API (Aquarium Pharmaceuticals) - yes I know - the guys in the USA pay a *lot* less.

Anyway, everything apart form the nitrite is good. Nitrite always need to be zero. So perform 10% daily water changes until the nitrite stays at zero :good:

Cool, thanks for you help.

Think it was all down to overfeeding. Got mixed advice.

The tetras are now on a strick diet!!

Am also doing dailey 10% changes, and have added a nitra-zorb pack.
