I've hit something rather nasty: in internal parasite that is very deadly, quick, and not responsive to most treatments. At this time, levamisole represents the only remaining hope, and hopefully I'll have it later today (powder designed for pigs)...

Possibly someone here used it (I never had to so far...) and can clarify a few questions I have.

Dosage: is 800mg/gallon stated in

this still the recommended dosage? (The FAQ is few years old ... is it out of date?).

Is their a smart way to divide/dissolve 20g of powder?

Do I err on overdosing in case of real bad situation (which it is)?

What is meant EXACTLY by very very large water change in

After 24 hours do a very very large water change. Repeat the dose after 3 to 4 days because any eggs or casings present in the fish are not affected by the drug. Therefore, you have to wait until they hatch.

I assume that serious gravel cleaning is a must..True?

Are there any known problems of combining levamisole with other meds or UV?

Thank you very much in advance for any info you could provide.

Thanks, Wilder.

I guess we'll find out. The only thing I do know is that the other meds do not work...

Thanks!

I've read his recent posts and this gives me some idea. No need to bother him, since I probably have a different parasite here.

Ok, good luck, hope they make it, watch out for bacterial infections, as they do alot of damage to the organs.

Yes, sure. The affected tank has a UV attached to it, which may help a bit.

Thanks for your help.

A followup question:

Does anyone here know

1. If one should turn off UV during levamisole treatments?

2. The exact reason why UV should be turned off during treatments with Prazi/Pro?

TIA
