Hello,

My daugther just got 2 of these pretty ones from a friend (we are just starting a new 10gallon tank and they are the first 2 in it) and first I would like to know if someone can tell me what they are!!!

Second, after 2 days one of them seems to be lethargic, does not eat and stays in one upper corner in the tank (next to the heater but not sure if that is just a coincidence - the temperature in the tank is 78 and the other one seems fine). Any suggestions?

Thanks,
F.

Looks like fancy goldifsh to me.
Immediate water change and increase aeration in the tank.
Do you have water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

For the first fancy goldfish you need 15 gallon tank and 10 gallons for every other one added.
Also you need double filteration as they are massive waste producers.
I would think of rehoming the goldfish as the tanks way to small for them.

Sounds like your tanks still cycling.

Yes, my tank is still cycling, water stats are okay...

I was afraid of this... it looks like a fantail goldfish from what I can see. I'll have to see what I can do about a bigger tank; not planning to have a big one :-(.

For two fancy goldifsh you would need a 25 to 30 gallon tank.
A filter for 50 to 60 gallon to cope with the waste.
For now I would do a water change and increase aeration, as fish find it hard to breath in bad water quality.
Cycling tanks take it toll on fish as it stress them causing the immune system to be weak, burns there skin and gills. Blood dosn't flow throw the blood vessels well.
