I un-plugged my heater cause I was doing some work in my tank, I finished everything up and plugged the heater back in. I'm sitting by the tank looking at what I did, and I noticed that my heater's pilot light wasn't on. So I un-plugged it again and plugged it back in. Then I started to smell a burning smell. I thought maybe that I split some water somewhere or something like that, so I checked the plug again. *The burning smell is getting stronger at this point* Then I looked down on the floor and noticed that there was another plug sitting there, that wasn't plugged in. So I followed the cord and it was attached to my heater that was sitting in the tank. Hmmm... If my heater wasn't plugged in, then what the hell did I plug in!?!?! Oh ####... it was my old heater that I plugged in, which was sitting with some other fish stuff in my fish shelf! And that's where the burning smell was coming from.
Here are some pictures of my stupidity.
The old heater, the melted plastic smelled nice
and is that a crack in it!?!?!
That's my siphoning hose that has a nice hole in it. Thankfully i bought a new one a few weeks ago.
Moral of the story: Do not keep your old heater anywhere near your plug bar.
