hi all. I'm not sure if 2 female batta's could flare at each other! (does this mean they are lesbians?) :hyper:

Flaring is not a sign of sexuality; it is a sign of aggression. Two females can surely flare at one another; any two bettas can. It often preceeds a fight, so if you notice them chasing and flaring, do keep an eye on them to make sure they won't start hurting each other.
Not sure what your set-up is, but please keep in mind that you need a min. of 4 females (4-6) in a min. 10g tank, very well planted with plenty of caves and hiding holes, to prevent deadly fights. :good:

Flaring is at least as much an act of aggression as it is part of the mating instinct. It would not suggest sexual attraction between the two bettas, but, rather, an act of aggression and dominance.

I remember my first-er-est-ical post here had the title "Is my betta gay" or something like that because 2 of my females flared at each other but that was like....many years ago  But as Wiktor said, its normal for females do that.

the flaring is agression, they will have a pecking order and will flare to show that they think they are dominant, or to scare the other out of their 'area'.
