hi one of my leopards have a swollen tummy, he is swaying from side to side as he swims and staying among the plants. he has stopped eating, i am thinking im may be bloating but wount eat peas.
Is there anything else it could be?
What other ways can bloating be treated?
Thanks
Lloyd

What do you feed the fish?
Are scales sticking out or raised?
What does it look like when the fish go to the toilet?
is the anus enlarged or red and inflamed?

Epson salt baths to help draw fluids out.
Bacterial med in isolation.
Feed shelled peas if you think the bloating might be due to constipation.

Once scales stick out last stage of dropsy.
This fish rarely make it once scales stick out.

the fish gets flake 5 days a week blood worms 1 day and peas 1day.
no scales are flat (i have had a danio with dropsy before and its a little bit different this time)
not seen them go to the toilet
anus is not red or inflamed

how can i make him eat peas when he wount eat anything, should i just keep trying until he dose?
Thanks for the help
Lloyd

Improve the fish diet with more frozen foods like daphnia, which helps the fish digest it's food, brine shrimp.
Green veg.
Don't over feed bloodworms as they cause bloating.

All you can do then is add a drop of cod liver oil to the fish mouth. But you can't feed the fish for two days.
Or try the peas again.

Do an epson salt bath.
Get you a link.

The site not working.
Do a search on epson salt baths for fish.

Think its good news, his swelling has gone down, didnt see anything went upstairs to play xbox came back down and hes small again. he is still swimming a bit odly but looking much better.
Cheers

That's good news. It sounds like it was just a case on constipation, or over feeding the bloodworms.
Thanks for the update.

he is still swimming funny and not with the other danios havent tried feeding yet but i would guess he wount eat.
could the swelling have damaged his swimbladder or something?
thanks

I can't tell from the vid but does he have a curved spine? or is he bent in the middle? because I had a zebra danio that had a twik in him when I bought him and he started swimming kind of like that and later died

but if he has no curvature or bending then its probally not that

That's bad.
Isolate and use an internal bacteria med.
Has the spine bent or curved?

bad news, hes missing, ive had quite a good look but no sign of him at all, he could be hiding but if he died i think the amino shrimp wouldnt leave much left =(
could they be infected?
what is the best internal bacteria medication for future referance?
thanks for the help

more bad news, had i found him still alive with a shrimp eating his tail so i fished him out and euthanized him. i thought he was dead until i got him out the water but shrimp had eaten over half of tail fin so probably best.
i am now going to get a hospital tank as this might have saved him.
thanks

There isn't any great internal bacteria meds in the uk.
Lfs bought meds are only good on mild bacteria infections.

If you catch an infection early you might stand a chance with any of these meds, myxazin by waterlife, internal bacteria med by interpet, esha 2000.

There a jbl med called furanol 2, but the med wipes the beneifical bacteria out in the filter. So best to only use it in isolation. The med also not easy to get hold of.

Severe bacteria infections you really need antibiotics prescribed by a vet in the uk.
