i just moved a piece of wood from my oldest tank to my new kitchen tank and found about 5 leeches on it. i am so grossed out. so im sure theres more in my 1st tank and now ive just introduced them to my new one. how can i get rid of them? ive looked online but it only really tells me to put raw liver in my tank... :/

you could put your arm in the tank for a few hours!! just kidding!! i have had a look and most sites seem to go down the raw liver route...gross!! apparently there are treatments you can get...something called 'clout' maybe someone on here will know more about this as i have never heard of it!! something to look into though. i have also read that you should do a water change and be careful not to over-feed as the leeches feed on waste food and fish poop!! think you need to get your tank as clean as possible them maybe someone can suggest a treatment for the leeches. if all else fails, it seems it may be a trip to the butchers!! sorry!!

good luck

L

my skin is crawling! yes i think they have come from my early days of overfeeding :( i dont now, i even went away for 3 days and left them and theyve been fine (i used to think they 'looked hungry') lol. anyways my new tank is fishless so ive just dumped a load of table salt in there and will continue that for a bit. guess i wont be having fish in there for another couple of months... as for my oldest tank i think i'll have to take everyone out and do a super clean. this has really ruined my day i can tell you. thanks for the reply i was freaking :)

oh i dont know now! they didnt have that kind of hammer head thing but they werent black... confused now...are they both bad tho?

with a black line down the middle? oh please be planaria, then i can just give the tank bed a reall clean out and feed every other day for a bit... fingers crossed, i'll hunt another

Sometimes yes, there's nothing wrong with them, just pull them out as you spot them, they pose no threat to fish.

my heart rate is returning to normal, thankyou. guess i should get the salt out of the new tank :/ whoops
