I'm guessing that those pics are taken with some blue LEDS in the forground ?

If so then, yes, a bit of white in the background might be nice. Mainly though, I think you need to use a larger aperture on your camera (or more likely ... get an expensive camera & lens that allows you to take low light pictures). Compact cameras are simply not up to the job of low light, non-flash photography.

yea its taken with a samsung compact mate i wasnt expecting it to be that great but it gives you some idea

Yeah, it's the camera, not the lighting in terms of those pics.

As for your own viewing pleasure, I'd say some extra white LED background lighting as well as the foreground blue sounds rather nice.
