So... stupidly, I left the light on my 5 gallon tank on while I did a water change and replanted the tank. I left for 5 minutes to dump my buckets and get water to refill the tank, and one of my room mates opened my bedroom door, which knocked the light off of where I had it balanced and INTO the tank of water.

I unplugged the light immediately, removed it from the water, and placed it on a towel in hopes that the water would drip out. Thankfully, no fish were in the tank (I'd removed the two male bettas as I was doing a major rescape on the tank).

So, here's the awful part. I now have a 5 gallon tank planted with 4 different types of crypts (Lutea, Undulata, Parva and Wendtii) that has no lighting whatsoever, no room in my other tank for these plants, and I'm guessing that my light for the 5 gallon tank is now fried. I'm afraid to plug it back in.

Thing is, now I need to find some lighting for this tank. I've found some cheap LEDs on eBay. Would these work (LINK)?, or is there an easier and cheaper option?

Assuming only the light tube/led fixing fell in and not the main power source i.e transformer and/or the ballast then you might be lucky by drying it out.

I don't have experience with LEDs like those, though I personally wouldn't have much faith in them either. Possibly you could get something like an Arcadia Pod 9w though that would be high light for a small tank.

no.. it was the entire light assembly. Everything went in. It was almost submerged. it was pulled out seconds after it fell in, but it was in long enough to cause everything to flicker before it was unplugged.

I'm basically looking for a semi-temporary (it's gotta last until the end of April) solution, until summer vacation starts and I have some time to find a more permanent solution. The tank is so small that I don't want to kill it with too much light. It's a basic 5 gallon rectangular tank.

your best bet will be a 'bendy' desk lamp from the store.

I would doubt that LED UNIT has any use other than for effect or using under kitchen cabinets/in display cabinets. etc.
