We're looking to get a 2 foot cube tank soon which will be low tech planted, looking for stylish luminarie type thing giving between 1 and 2 watts per gallon.

We saw today in an lfs one which uses LED's, helpfully I can't remember the name of who makes it but will google and try to provide a link. They do one which calls itself 'natural daylight' which is what they say is decent for plants. Hopefully when I remember the name I can look up the kelvin rating etc to give you.

Anyway in general terms are there any issues with using LED's for plant growth, are they good or will we end up with an algae ridden mess?

The LED lighting units are ok for plants. George is currently testing one on his and he is getting good results. It adds a different light output throughout the water (sparkles) like metal halides. He is using Marine whites as he said the yellow LED's supplied with the natural daylight are too yellow.

HTH, Aaron
