hi,

just after a bit of advice, we have a plant in the middle of our tank, sorry i dont remember the name of it. (please see pic)

it started off a lush green colour and now some of the new leaves are growing back brown and then they go all transparrant. is it dying?

Thanks

do you have a picture? it's either non aquatic or is lacking CO2 by the sounds of it.

Will try and get one. I got it from pets at home so it should be aquatic as it came out of one of their tanks.
Will the lack of CO2 be harmfull to the fish?? sorry i'm new to all this so not really sure.

Hi, if it's the one in the centre of your avatar it looks like an Amazon Sword, I have had them a few times but they never last too long as they are heavy feeders that require iron to keep them happy, I bought some excellent root tabs for mine after they started to go like yours and they started to throw new leaves and were happy for a bit but then I could no longer find the original tablets I purchased and stopped feeding them and they died :X

if its an amazon sword they do need root tabs and ive heard a source of iron? when the leaves go transparent.

thanks everyone, yeah its the one in my avatar. its a strange one, there are some beautiful green leaves on the outter edge but the middle ones appear to be reddy/brown colour. it seems to go through phases, one day it looks lovely and the next it looks half dead
can anyone recommend another plant to go with it?

what is the pinkish plant to the right? Is that real or plastic? If its real and its managed to keep this colour then I would say the tank is getting loads of light and hence the sword is short of nutrients (CO2, iron or potassium).

What is a root tab? My sword had a slightly transparent leaf or two, so is this iron defficiency?

Does Flourish Excel contain iron? I think I read something about iron on the packaging...
