I have found my tank is leaking, i have ordered a new tank, however its not going to arrive until tuesday, at present i have my fish (19 of them, all small) in a small temp tank, heater is on and airstone is on, however i dont have a filter for this as my leaking tank is a juwel filter and wont fit in the temp tank... im hoping my fish will be ok in a small tank for a few days...

My question is how do i go about putting them into my new tank once its arrived, i intend to use the same bio sponges and gravel from my old tank and will stock up on reverse osmosis water to fill it. Will this be ok or is there anything i should be aware of or need to do?

I'm not an expert on cycling by any means, but I have 2 - 10gallon tanks that I cycled. I am pretty sure that if you transfer gravel and sponge filter to the new tank, it will be almost an instant cycle, or close to it. You might have a spike of something, but it shouldn't be major.

Good luck! :)

Unfortunatly yes, i had no other choice as i couldnt get replacement tank for 2 days, the new tank comes tomorrow, and hopefully i'll be able to transfer the fish by wednesday when the temperature is ok as im adding reverse osmosis water once ive transfered the sponges & gravel. The fish are ok and have enough room to swim and keep out of each others way (they are all small fish, ie. white clouds, infant corys, in fact the largest fish in there is a red tailed black shark who is still an infant of about 2 inches).

I was wondering if the sponges would be ok as im keeping them in a bucket of the old water that i had to drain from the old main tank but theres no fish in there. Will the bacteria live until tomorrow when i put the sponges in the new tank?
