Hey guys! I have a lid for my fish tank that's 2 parts. The part with the lightbulbs and then the part with the thing that opens. For the past few weeks I've been noticing white crusty stuff on the sides of the lid after I clean the tank. I thought that when I cleaned the tank I must have spilled some water there and not cleaned it up. But today (I haven't cleaned the tank since last weekend) I noticed some more of the white stuff except it was more gray and when you touched it, it was wet!!
So I took off the lightbulb part of the lid and there was more water there....Is my lid leaking somehow?

Should I buy a new lid or get some kind of glue to seal it?
I looked under it and I don't think that there's any way water could get up...there's no crevices. Does anyone know what to do??

Thanks!! :D

Sounds like condensation and lime scale to me.
Have you got a condensation tray in the tank?

I don't think so. Unless like when you buy a tank/lid it comes with it....

Involving the lid, I've also had problems with rust. The gold part surrounding the button that turns on the light rusted. Does this have anything to do with a condensation tray? Which, by the way, what is that?
Thanks!

The condensation tray will limit the amount of water that will collect on the hood of the tank protecting the light fittings/switches.
Some tanks are supplied with them.
Here is an example to give you an idea

This is for the plastic version but some people prefer to get some glass cut and mount it using runners inside the hood.

Hope this helps

Thanks so much!
Are they recommended? Do you think for my issue it would be best to get one?
Also, when looking at the tank, can you see them?

I have always used one in my tanks to protect the lighting and lid.
When they are fitted they are not seen as they are hidden by the lid and above the water line.

It will stop around 80/90% of the condensation hitting your tank hood.

Wow that's great!! Thanks so much!! Do you know where I can get one that's a reliable source? I checked PetSmart and Petco, but no luck. :(
