I've recently bought a house with a nice garden, and plenty of plants.
I was wondering if I can use their leaves for my new discus tank as leaf litter. In particular:
  • apple
  • pear
  • nashi
  • cherry
  • almond
  • magnolia
  • black and red currant
  • blueberry
  • plum
  • kaki (persimmon)
The trees are not sprayed with anything, and the garden is on the edge of a quiet countryside village with little traffic on a road that's about 200m away (so they're clean at least :D )

what about magnolia seed pods?

I would avoid anything of the cherry/plum family, as some of them release toxins as they decompose. I believe blueberry leaves are sometimes considered toxic, too. Not sure about the others.

I have used oak, poplar, and Indian almond leaves with no problems.

I have used Magnolia leaves in my tanks before, they tend to last awhile. I purchased mine from TanninAquatics, though, so I am not sure of the specific species.
