is it safe to use the lead weights you see on bunches of plants in pet store in your aquarium for the likes of elodea and hornwort whish just rot at the base if you bed them into the substrate and become freefloating all over the tank!

the decor in my tank does not realy allow to wrap the plants around the decor to anchor it, so i wish to use the lead weight to stopp the plants drifting around, but are they safe? do they not harm the fish?

They are safe to use.
Someone asked the same question once in PFK ages and ages ago. Along the lines of "will my fish get lead poisoning?" Answer would be no.

Take the lead weights off and plant the stems seperately approx 2cm apart. The lead weight restricts root growth. Planting the stems a little apart allows better light coverage too.
