Hello all,
I've recently added Laterite to my 30 gallon planted tank, i put about a half inch of Laterite then placed about 2 inches of aquarium gravel, that being the final step toward a high-tech ''ish'' heavily planted dream i have
. It's density is around medium or so with about 50% of the substrate planted and will finally become a heavily planted tank as soon as i find the right foreground plant to fill in the remaining 50%. With the lighting at 3.2 wpg and soon-to-be heavily planted, im hoping to once and for all remove about 80 gallons worth of filtration (external) and just stick an internal 20 gal filter in there, but because of the stocking levels i have i doubt that it will happen, im just not sure.
My question is about the Laterite as well as water changes and tank maintenance...
Once i have a heavily planted tank with a carpeted foreground is it still necessary to try and syphon/ vacuum out the remaining waste at the bottom of the tank stuck between substrate and carpet?
While i don't have the foreground i have a 50% planted aquarium, is it necessary to vac clean out the bottom of the tank even if that means disturbing the Laterite? Assuming i push the vac all the way to the bottom?
If possible, once heavily planted do i even need a gravel vac or can i just simply do water changes?
What are some cleaning methods for heavy planted tanks with medium to high stocking levels that you guys have, if any?
I hope all this is clear. It made sense in my head and i hope you get it as well. If there is anything that needs to be elaborated on or if unsure about anything let me know, please.
Hope to get some kind of feedback, thanks guys/gals.
