Lateralite Or Root Tablets?

If i go with a low tech planted tank, can I use lateralite as a root fertalizer instead of constantly adding root tablets? Which is the best option for the plants?

i always prefer having the substrate stable and usable from day 1 so laterite would be my vote over root tabs but then again if your not going to go heavily planted then root tabs might just do it
