Hi.

At last the rest of the fishes look fine. The betta is recovering (the tail is still stained but the transparent part is getting more substance).

The neon is still alive. Acting normal but still bloated (not too bad) and pop eye. The thing I thought is scales rising is a fungus .... because is more on one side and looks flufy. So he is still on Maracyn+Maracyn2 and I added API anti-fingus. I read that neons are sensitive to malachite green but ..... I thought he either live or die. Well, he didn't die and the next day the flufy thing is smaller ... hard to say exactly because he is such a small neon (I raised it from a baby neon).
What should I do about meds ? How long am I going to keep him under treatment ? Does he needs a brake ?
Any ideas ? Why the pop eye is not getting better ?
Oh, I almost forgot, his colors are back, not strong enough but the blue line is shaped well and the red is pale but looks continuous.
Any other meds that I should try ? It looks like pop eye is resistant to Maracyn ...

Thank you .
L

PS My two big tanks are cycling .... God, but I put the carbon and I am adding Melafix (half dosage because that was your advice). The carbon might inactivate it .... well .... testing.

You could try that. Is it a small white fulffy thing on him ?
Are all his scales OK now and his colour, cos it sounded a bit like dropsy to me.

Read the back of the medication. Normally you have a water change after several doses, then carrry on until hes better.

If he is with other tank occupants, them maybe a break is a good thing, as prolonged exposure to medications can also have side effects for healthy fish.

What medication are you using now ?

Just seen your PS. Is there a reason you have carbon in the tank ? It removes medications incluiding melafix, so your wasting your money there.

Thank you for answering.
The neon it's in a separate little tank 2.5 gal with filter and air, no carbon.
I have 2 other tanks (in you read my previous 2 messages) in which I had sick fish . They are better now. But I treated them with Maracyn and Maracyn two and the biological ... gone.

Right now I changed the water for the little neon, who was the perfect definition of dropsy but refuses to die (or I don't let him), and he is moving more and exploring the fish tank. So, my guess is that the meds were stressfull for him. I gave him the first dose of Anti-fungus API (green stuff) and the withe fluffy thing is almost invisible. I wouldn't try the second dose on him .... What do you think. He was under 8 days of Maracyn and Maracyn two but I stoped them when I gave the Anti fungus.
Bottom line:
- bloated but not scale rising anymore
- some very very little fluffy stuff on one side (might be scales too, I need a microscope for that ... he is a very little neon)
- pop eye (not getting better)
- not eating now (he use to under Maracyn)
- he likes the heater (80-82)
No need to say amonia 0 and nitrite test is clear blue.

Any advice is welcomed. I think the bacteria he has are already resistent to Maracyn (1+2).
Thanks.
L
PS: I spent so much money on this fish .... but I'm not giving up on him. He doesn't look like ready to die but it's a sad face with those poped eyes. I had neons before that died (two) just like that .... This one .... nope.

its very good of you to keep trying. If nothing else you will learn from it.

I had one with dropsy, I thought he was on the road to recovery but then died

As far as I know, there is no cure for dropsy.

In case it isnt that, you could try some internal bacteria medication, like Interpet No 9 or something akin to that.

Maybe the medication does stress him, but it needs sorting out, whatever you know he responds to, try it and stick with it, keep the water spot on and aerated as much as you can and hope hes OK. Avoid putting the light on too much and keep the temp around the 80 mark.

Hopefully wilder will see this and maybe have some better advice.

I hope he / she gets better.
Good luck :good:

He died.

After 10 hours of tetracycline he was breathing heavily but the eyes looked better.

Unfortunately the tail of my betta male looks bad again (it broke). The infection was not cured completely .... oofff.

Sorry to hear that, at least you tried.

Is the betta on its own ?

If its normal fin rot, treat it and it should respond well.

Hi.
Yes I moved the betta male (Cleo) in the hospital tank now and after 3 more days on Maracyn 1+2 the tail started to repair (it glues back ?!!!) ..... So he got in total 8 days of treatment (with few days in between).
I feed them only brine shrimp (frozen) and everybody has nive color and are happy and chuby. At the begining I thought that Cleo has dropsy because he got bloated but then I realised that he ate too much shrimp .... hmmm.
Give me some advice about that : Cleo (betta male) used to be in a 10 gal with 3 ghost shrimp, a snail and 4 neons (now 3) and the Chinese algae eater. He is a good swimmer, incredibly fast when he is fighting for his caves with the algae eater (and he wins). Should I put him back or keep him alone after he gets better ? He looks like the 2.5 is too small for him .... Anyway, he is a very big betta .... bigger that I ever saw at the store (and he was so little and miserable when I bought him). When he gets excited is very scary ....
In the 5 gal the betta female (Gispy) is getting very big too. But she has a perfect relationship with the yo-yos. The race toghether all day. Nobody looks stressed. Should the betta be so active ? I read that they are slow and lazy but mine are very active and fast. Could this be a sign of stress ?

Thanks for patience and answers.

PS: looking back, fishes are a very expensive pets, and the plants too, and the meds .... They cleaned my VISA. I really hope they are happy at least.
PPS: personal observation: the bettas got used to my hand and I think that they like to be gently touched. Anyway they don't mind like the neons (scardy fishes).
PPS: the yo-yos are making some clicking sounds when the water level is low (when I change it).

Conclusion: I have too many fishes for a beginner ..... because my friend gave me the 5 gal and I bought the 10 gal.
