Well so much for those that told me to get females as one to two males were suicide for the female. She is and always was not stressed and fine however on adding females my two males have died.
Is this the norm get so many pregnant and snuff it??

did they look sick? water conditions okay?
any signs of disease?

Water conditions were very good and has been established over ten months. They were eating and swimming. They were very very thin though. I also was told they were good swimmers but that could have been the problem as they were never still. I thought the two males chased each other and the female she was a bit bigger and seemed to be lazy as I thought due to pregnancy.
The tank had not had new tank mates for a few months until these 6 more females but I removed prior to that a lot of fish to my large tank, leaving them with Neons and Platies. Perhaps they were old they came from a friend who i suspect had bred and bred and bred them. Her hubby died and I think they were left to just get on so I guess its natural.
I have asked for takers..please anybody but no-one wants so I guess i am hoping this lot will eat the offspring if indeed they give birth.
I am not totally keen on being midwife. Moving them etc it all seeems too stressful.

You mean, die of some sort of sexual surfeit? It shouldn't be. Do you think the new additions might have brought something into the tank? Something like parasites, or a bacterial infection or something?

I did think that as they were kinda of different after the new ones arrived. Just sad they have died. Who can say.. Why I guess but yes thanks for saying

I thought I might have seen something on their bodies.

Had that with Platies but to be honest did not notice anything strange they just go thinner. I did watch them eat which was like the rest as in they never get fed.

are you still trying to give some of the babies away?
I'm trying to get some female guppies, swordies and platties as a bacterial infection (now cleared up) decimated my females leaving me with a 1:1 ratio in each camp now which is not good!
Where are you based? Anywhere near Oxford? Bet you're in the states! gah
:look:

No I am near Cambridge area.

Oxford is not too far but I've never posted. Yes I have females that I would like to go to good home, but unfortunately one of the platies has got white spot so I guess this has gone unnoticed on the male guppies even though I am now using meds I think it maybe safer to save my pennies and give it a quick exit. I therfore do not know if you would want anything from that tank. They look fine ..... but tis up to you.
They are adults that have not yet given birth, I got them as it was cruel to keep two males with one female now they are gone I really feel the breeding game is not for me.
