Last Chance For My Betta

Thanks - I'm not sure at all! I posted under the emergency section and someone pointed out that it could be eggs since her color is good, scales normal, and eating. She was just a baby when I got her (about seven months ago) and I haven't had a female before. If it is eggs, do you think she'll eventually expel them?

I used a cup of epsom salts, adding a half-cup four days later. I don't have another betta to set nearby (it's a bit too cold here for one to be sitting at room temp), and I'm thinking this isn't a good time to introduce tank-mates

Yes, she won't eat peas. I was advised to get daphnia, which I'll do asap.

Are you sure this is an intestinal obstruction? Sometimes an eggy female can also become lethargic and unhappy.

How much epsom salts did you use?

Try and feed her some peas, but a lot of my bettas won't take them so don't get too worried if she doesn't eat them. If she's got a bit of a temper, try putting another betta in a jar next to her tank. Bettas poo when they flare, if you're lucky.

I'm starting to think I should buy a male from the LFS and ask if I can return him when/if she lays her eggs (only half-kidding), altho I'd have to put him in a plastic bag because there's no place to set a bowl since my Biorb is on a pedestal stand! If it worked, I'd be fine with them keeping the money I paid for him.

do you have a boy that you can place her in sight of, so if it is eggs maybe she will be prompted to drop them?

Hi, kismet,
I'm rather hoping someone will comment on the amount of epsom salt - I believe 1 teaspoon per 10 gallons is more usual - a cup and a half sounds rather a lot...
Another issue is that I believe that'll hike the GH which will alter the pH - is anyone available to comment on this?
Have you been taking it down by attrition through water changes?
Or is it being maintained at that level?

Thanks! It was being maintained at that level, but 'm doing water changes, so it should be reducing the salts as I go, but it's a good point. I'd been advised to use that amount, but that doesn't mean it was good advice!
