I have red cherry shrimps which have had many young. I also have tetras. Tank size is 550 litres. Filter is a Fluval FX5. Tank dimensions W4 x H2.5 x D2 feet. Picture here.

I want to prevent shrimps getting sucked in. The filter is very powerful. I could add a sponge into the intake strainer, but it would get clogged up so fast I'd have to clean it so often. Reducing flow just causes air to build up after a week.

What can I do to prevent any baby shrimps being sucked up?
Or what type of filter is best that won't suck up baby shrimp (or even adults), but is big enough for this size tank?
What would you recommend in this situation?
