hi i currently have a 350 liter tank, and have 10 rummy nose, 10 cardinal, 4 sterbi cory, 1 royal pleco and 2 blue german rams, getting 2 large discus next week but want a few large cichlids.

What are the dimensions of your tank?

Think that'll help when choosing fish - as I'm useless with knowing whether a tank is overstocked or near capacity but may help someone else to advise you :)

unless the discus are a pair then i would advise at least another 3. discus are a shoaling fish and any aggression, that all cichlids have, will be spread between the group and not on a certain individual keeping stress levels to a minimum. try to get similar size fish too otherwise the smallest may get bullied more than the others :good:

I agree unless they are a breeding pair to add more discus, the only problem with adding another large cichild would be the temperature, as both the discus and the rams should be in temps around 28-30c, most other SA cichlids dont like this temperature, whilst they can tolerate it for short periods, they dont like it that high. CA cichlids would be too aggressive for the discus and rams and also wont tolerate the high temps.

The only ones that spring to mind are Uaru, but never having kept them Im not sure on their temp requirement and they need to be in groups to be happy.

Severums are big and colourful, everything else would be suitable, Sevs can work with Discus, depends on the fish, i have owned about 15 diff sevs long term (and hundreds short term) and only ever had one nasty one (a wild green female).

I too have kept Severums and Discus as well.
Only problem I expierienced was at feeding time. Severums are much more aggressive at feeding time than the Discus I kept and had to be housed in another tank for that reason.
Discus actively fed, but Severums would drive them away until they had eaten their fill first.
