Greetings!

I am thinking of setting up a reasonably large planted tank in the near future and toying with the idea of having larger fish in there, say 5 inches plus. Ive always been a fan of Cichlids was just wondering which variaties would be compatible with each other and not tear up the tank. Im thinking along the lines of Firemouths, JackD's.....convicts? I would like some eye catching colour or striking shaped fish if possible.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I think you will have a hard time to find large cichlids that will not rip your plants to bits.

I have tried many times doing this, and have failed each and every time having spent hundreds on plants....I have a large tank.

In regard the fish, depends on the size of your tank and dwelling areas/caves. I have a near 1000ltr tank and even having two
jack dempseys was too much. Convicts are ok, however if you have a male and female, they will breed just for fun, during this
time, they will defend their nesting area aggressively, so maybe having just a male or female may help this.

Keep doing the research, I am sure you will end up with a great looking tank....heres mine.....

I wouldnt be against getting rid of the plants to be honest as long as I can get an interesting/natural looking tank using stones, slate, pebbles and substitute in some fake plants. I think I would avoid pairs of fish all together to be honest. You have some great looking fish in your tank, a bit too "busy" for my tastes but lovely fish. What is the mottled green fish that enters shot around 0.51s?
