Hi,

I went to a fish shop yesterday where I had reserved some kribs the day before. I was really dissapointed to find that, despite assuring me they'd be there for me to pick up on monday, they'd gone ahead and sold them anyway. Gutted because they were a REALLY nice pair.

Anyway I decided to chose 2 more and the girl there didn't even know how to sex them (don't you love when fish stores employ people who don't know about fish?!?) so after teaching her how to sex them and chosing my pair she began trying to net them and after much fussing and me trying to direct her to the right ones she got the wrong 2 but by that time all the fish were stressed and had lost their colour and I don't know how to sex them except by colour (and she sure as hell didn't know) so I took the 2 she got on the condition I could bring them back if i wasn't happy.

Well now that they're all coloured up they turned out to be 2 very good looking females. Given that i don't really have the time or the space to breed are 2 females ok?

Sorry for the long rant before the simple question but it's just stupid how fish shops employ people who don't know about fish, it's like having hairdressers who don't know how to cut hair!

There is a very slim chance that they will co-exist but unfortunately your more likely to see them turn on each other sooner or later.

Agreed, id get a male in there instead of two females...
Was this a pets at home by any chance

No actually the pets at home near me seems to be well aware of its reputation and has totally turned themselves around... you have to fill in a questionnaire before you are allowed to buy fish!! Very impressed! This was suprisingly maidenhead aquatics who are normally good.

The problem is if i have to return one of the fish i'll have to return it to the same place.. so as I know for myself if they lose colour through stress how do you then sex them since clearly the staff don't know?

Thanks

look for an elongated krib with a larger dorsal fin, Males also tend to be slimmer than females

when you are ready to add the male i would catch the female, change the decor slightly and do a small water change, before introducing them both into the tank at the same time.
