i stripped my planted tank down today and i have set it up for victoria cichlids, the problem i have is the information on victoria cichlids is limited at best so heres a quick pic of the tank its very cloudy at the minute but you get the general idea

the measurement sof the tank are 34" long 20" high and 22" wide holds around 245 litres or if you prefere 65 gallons

so im hoping someone can help me with the general stocking as i know very little of victoria cichlids so any help at all is welcome :good:

with cichlids i kinda gave up trying to make it look natural as all they will do is dig it all up anyway  cheers for the site :good:

just quickly do you have any ideas of stocking?

I'm sorry but I dont. I dont know enough about them to give any sound advice.

try this....take 3 rocks and bunch them in a back corner then space out the remaining two but off center not uniform or lined up at all

I'd like to see it then for sure!! :)

the picture is actually very mis leading its not uniform trust me its just because the picture is square on.

does anyone on here actually keep victoria cichlids or not?

its not happening if i cant get some stocking ideas  cheers for link :good:

ok information on victoria cichlids compatibility is just non existant i want to keep maybe 4-5 species in there but i dont know how or even if this is possible!

does anyone on here actually keep victorian cichlids? if so could someone point me in the right direction plz :D

I know they are very aggressive possibly more relentless than Mbuna so I would provide more rocks / cover for sub dominant and female fish. Never kept them but have been very tempted a few times. Good Luck.

Depends on the fish - try to do 1m to 3-4f as a stocking ratio. See whats available in your area, and maybe we can give you some more advice. The C-F link above will really help if you read through.

I'm going to go with Nick on this one, regarding their aggressiveness. I have never kept Victorians but from what I have read it would appear that they are less forgiving in terms on the numbers you can have co-inhabiting a tank. Unlike, Malawi cichlids the aggression cannot be as easily stemmed by overstocking. The other problem that I can see is trying to find numerous species from lake Victoria. The majority of the fish are now nearly all highly endangered by overfishing and the introduction of the predatory Nile perch. However, if you know of someone or your local fish shop has contacts with a private breeder you may be in luck.

Regarding your tank, although it has a fairly large capicty. I would suggest that you replace those six large rocks (or some of them) with smaller stacked rocks. Many small rocks have a greater surface area than large rocks of the same weight. Thus providing more holding spots and territories for your fish.

with cichlids i kinda gave up trying to make it look natural as all they will do is dig it all up anyway
This is nonsense, just because the fish move a bit of substrate does not mean that you cannot strive to make a natural looking hardscape.

 one more time....

Greg Steeves is probably the best guy here in the states and he's in touch with folks across the world regarding Vics.

ok i got all the information i needed from the link provided by dfhoffsett so yet again dfhoffset comes up trumps again :good:

im going to go with 4 Rock Kribs and 4 Nyererei Red Flank 1 male and 3 females of each hopefully then a small group of synodontis :D

i have moved the tank around added things taken things away and such.

there is no chance of me taking those rocks out of the tank they cost me £50 for what you see there so its not happening

here's the revamp.

the wood has been in any number of different tanks for 8 years or so, so im confident it wont be dropping the ph :good:

50 squids on rocks!!! Better you than me mate. However, the tank looks great and I like the addition of the vallis and the onion plants. :good:

Glad I could help, although all I did was paste a link.

Looking good, can't wait to see pics of the fish when you get them. :good:
