Aloha,

Im new to cichlids and have just started a new tank. At the mo i have two yellow labs and two hongi labs.

Are these compatible? the lfs said they would be?

I want to have around 4-5 different species in 180L tank. any suggestions or favorites would be a brilliant help!

Im trying to keep them as placid as poss but with as much colour.

Thanks again andy

They are compatible in terms of aggression but there is always a risk of interbreeding when keeping 2 very similar species.

4-5 could be difficult is that a 45G might be better off with 4 how many you want per species? 1M3F is good. They are compatible i think.
P.S Welcome to the forums. There is a risk of interbreeding i think.
(Wopps guess me n ferris replyid at the same time)

hi andyw1.welcome to the forums.excellant choice in keeping malawi's.keeping 3/4 of each species is usually always better.1 male and either 2 or 3 females would be ideal.can you get any more of the mentioned fish?????are they big enough to determine if male,or,female????try to post some pics of the fish if you can. :fish:

Actually you should be careful with this mix - hongi are much more aggressive then labs and their close relationship will often result in problems. It's really best to go with just one lab type.
