My brother just noticed that one of my kulhi loaches has an open wound underneath it's middle. He said it looked like something had taken a bite out of it, but i think it's just caught itself somewhere, maybe in the gravel or something. I can see some of it's skin hanging. Looks like it's recently been done.

Is there anything i can add to the water to help it heal? Or is he just going to have a slow death?
He's still moving around a little and for now he's hidden himself somewhere.

I don't think there's much that can be done now, he's breathing heavily and not moving. A snail even started to munch on his tail and he didnt even move!!!
I've put him in a breeding trap for now but i think he's just having a slow death.

Anyone got ideas how he could have done this? The wound must be about 1/2 cm square.
I have mats of riccia that i'm growing and move the stones underneath so that they can go under them. They're always trying to squeeze in but never done this much damage.
I dont think another fish would have done this either - i only have harlequins, few tetras (black neon, blue and green flame). Dont think they're capable, or amano shrimp or apple snail?

If it looks like there's no way back, I think you should consider euthanasia - it's kinder that way IMO.

Poor guy must have been in a lot of pain so i put him to sleep.
Still a mystery how it happened. I cant see a fish struggling so much if it's trapped that it takes a chunk out of it's skin??? Yet i dont have any fish capable of doing that either.
Unless it was some other illness that was causing him to lie still and the snails started eating him before i saw it??
Oh well, he's gone now.
RIP.

Maybe i'll use this as an excuse to get pink kulhi's :D
