So I was looking at Petco here today looking for German Blue Rams, which they don't have. I spotted a pair of Kribs in a tank and bent down to take a look. Low and behold, but I say 2 Kribs with at least 15-20 tiny tiny little fry, which the parents were guarding. There were no other fish in the tank, so the fry were safe. I asked an employee about it and she said that the employees decided to try and breed them in the store tank, and it worked. They apparently got 2 Kribs in and the fish section employees decided to give them their own little tank and see if they could breed them, and it worked. Now they're going to have like 15 Kribs for the price of 2.

Just wanted to share, becuase you usually just hear horror stories about the chain places, but this one did it right, and I found it pretty cool.

Cool story! I have also seen Petco offer mollie/platy fry for free if someone can take care of them. When their live bearer shipments come in they will separate the pregnant females into their own tank. I have seen a lot of fry in their own tank there and think it's nice they give them a chance.

I've also had as much luck with Petco fish as I have with LFS fish in regards to survival.

PetCo is about the only place I have to get fish unless I want to go to a REDICULOUSLY expensive pet shop a few towns away. I have always had good luck with their fish altho the one I go to has a limited selection.

I don't go to Petco because of the rodent care I've seen there, so I don't remember at all if Petco's around here have good fish... I'm thinking about giving them a second chance and going to the fairly new one to investigate...

I used to be pretty disappointed in their care of the animals as well.... but the last year or so , I think PETA has given them enough heck, ours at least has really spiffed up and made things more humane and pleasant for the animals
