I learned something last night and just had to share, for those of you who don't know.

After purchasing some fish at Pet Supplies Plus, I found a slip stapled to my reciept stating that if a fish died, I could bring it back within 7 days for a refund.
BUT
You must bring in a sample of your tank water, to be tested. If your results are good, they'll replace your fish. If theyre bad, they will replace your fish once you correct the problem and bring in a good sample.

I'm really glad to see a store that cares about their fish, and not so much their profits.

petco does that, and so does one of my other lfs, but if it dies you dnt get your money back.

Our Pet Supply plus has a sign that says due to discounted prices there are no guarantees on fish. They are no cheaper than anywhere else though.I'd rather pay more and get a reasonable assurance of healthy fish.

What a great idea to insist on a water test of your tank water so they know they're not just sending new fish into a right poisonous or harmful environment! That to me seems like going the second mile in caring for the fish they sell. Nice to hear about it. :)

I have delt with PSP taking fish back... Its just to bad that the kid that tested my water, from my very established, heavily planted tank that hasn't had any testable ammount of ammonia in 2 years, had no idea what he was doing and says to me, "You know your Ammonia is at 10 ppm thats what killed your fish and the rest are probably going to die today" I just said ok and left.

I for some reason can not keep a fish from them alive, be it corys, a betta, balloon mollys, angelfish, and neons... Everytime I buy fish there about 75 percent or more of them die on me.
But I can go to a LFS about 2 miles from them and buy fish for a little more, and yet to have had one of their fish die other than from old age.

I guess that's great, but I prefer one of my LFSs policy better. If you want a guarantee of a replacement fish, you must bring a sample of water and have them test it before you take the fish home, then you get a 7 day assurance the fish will live. If your sample is bad, they will not sell you the fish until you provide them a good sample. Without the sample you have 24 hours. I feel it is far better to try and prevent a fishes death than to try and prevent just the second fishes death. It certainly is better than nothing, and it is so difficult for fish stores to protect the fish once they leave the store.

Those are all good policy's. My Petcetera offered a 30 day guarantee, refund with receipt and if you bring in the dead fish and if you brought in a good water sample, they would do a free autopsy (on the fish ;)). I'm not sure if they still have that policy :dunno:
