well i have a heavily planted 35g long tank and i bought a pair of kribs and a pair of red bolivian rams so they can breed.

i can tell which one of my rams is a male and which isnt

but i cant tell for my kribs
maybe you can, here i go:

the smaller one has a dot on her/his anal fin and she/he is the one that made the nest behind the flowerpot in the corner.

the other one is maybe 1/2-1/3 inches bigger then the first one,has no dot on the anal fin and did not help build the nest.

the bigger one chases the smaller one around alot until the smaller one goes into its nest.

which ones which?

thx for any future help!

:/

Sounds like the nest builder is female as males tend to larger and females are more apt to initiate nest building but thats just guessing really, as males will build nests and the larger fish could be older and there should be larger. A more reliable way is males have a delta tail while females have rounded.

Andrew

Edit in- for an example of a males tail see my avatar, not a great shot but it shows the delta on my albino krib

I haven't kept kribs in years but I think the female is usually more colorful, with a pink stomach :)

BTW, kribs are african :D

I have had kribs too, the male is longer and has a diamond-shaped tail. The female is rounder with a pink belly, and she normally makes the nest while the male guards the territory.
