I have a 45 gallon tank with 3 kribs (2 males, 1 female), 2 danios, 5 rummynose tetras, 5 cardinal tetras, 1 dwarf gourami, 5 kuhli loaches, and 1 SAE. The tank is heavily planted and all of the fish have been happily living together for between 3-9 months.

Tonight I noticed my kribs had spawned and the eggs are located on the intake pipe of my AquaClear 110 filter! This is a strong filter and I'm worried that when the eggs hatch, the fry will get sucked up into the filter.

Should I turn off the filter until after the eggs hatch? Would this change cause my skittish krib parents to freak out and potentially eat the eggs? Does anybody have any suggestions that may help the kribs spawn successfully??

THANKS!!

NEVER turn your filter off as the bacteria will die they have spawned there cos they feel safe

you could

put tights around your filter or a round sponge this will stop the little ones getting eatin

and tbh its going to be a fast food resturant in there

cheers dane

provide a low roofed and concealed cave for them....they will breed and lay eggs in their hopefully, worked for me :good:

they rarly spawn in the open, as said alread a cave is the best thing or a flower pot will work.

That's the strange thing...there is a beautiful wood cave in there for them to spawn in, that's why I put it in there. And I'm hoping that because the plant cover is so dense, the little ones might not get eaten...

This afternoon, I noticed that all but 6 of the eggs were gone (!) so I decided I'd try putting the remaining ones into a breeding net in the aquarium. Has anyone ever tried this and had any success with hatching?
