Ive just bought a new setup and plonked my 10 kribs in that i raised, they are just over a year old with both parents in there
Im wantin to know whats compatable with them
I have 4 bala sharks and a kissing gourami and they are all fine in there with the kribs

Idealy id love to add some other type of cichlid but too scared to risk it so thats why im askin your advice

I heard that someone kept apistogramma with kribs

Well, you could put some Blood Parrot's( raise them as babies, and they should do fine), Livebearer's, Ummmm, Maybe some Dawrf Cockatoo Cichlids.
Here are some link's for those fish:
http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/cichlids...bloodparrot.htm - Blood Parrot's( please dont buy the dyed kind!)
http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/Fishindx/livebear.htm - Livebearer's( rule of thumb is 1 male to 2 females)
http://badmanstropicalfish.com/profiles/profile74.html- Cockatoo Cichlid( Breed in Harem's:1 Male to alot of females)

How big is your tank? What is the exact stocking? Did you cycle?

Its a 300L setup

At the moments theres 10 kribs includin parents, 4 bala's, 1 pink kissing gourami and 4 small black mollies

I did buy an elliot's cichlid the other day as the lfs recommended it and my kribs killed it
This is why im scared to add anything like rams, firemouths ect

So you think a blood parrot would be ok? not overly aggressive but not at the bottom of the pecking order?
They look really nice

Niced sized tank, so yeah a blood parrot should be okay. You need to re-arrange the tnak, or else the kribs will attack any cichlid that enter's their territory.

Hi JB,

i would personally lose the krib juveniles, its just a matter of time before they reach a larger\more mature size when they will become a threat to
the parents like anything else. At that point they will become targets also..

300l is plenty big enough to give you a lot of stocking option, is pH high or low??

I would also avoid the blood parrots, in my experience they are a bit of a time bomb and capable of shredding a lot of fish at a bigger size..

Provided your tapwater isnt hard as nails theres plenty of scope get back to me and Ill throw some suggestions at you...

Definitely re-arrange the tank when you introduce new fish and add as much decor as you can to reduce territory size and lower
line of sight this helps reduce aggression and gives new fish a fighting chance to get settled..

cheers

Thanks for the replies

Yes the tank is cycled btw

At the moment i have 2 large ocean rocks and a large piece of driftwood in there

I was planning on buildin the ocean rocks up to create hideouts ect for the kribs but decided not to, the balas are liable to get stuck between the rocks i know this from past experience
I think the kribs prefer the driftwood to the ocean rocks anyhow

Im really unsure what to add, i know i want to, id love to add the cockatoo cichlid but fear the kribs would kill it
i need to find something with the same aggression to the kribs

Compared to most Cichlid's, kribs arent very agressive, but it depends on the fish. You might want to add some clay flowerpot's, or some coconut caves. So the toher krib's adn newbie's to come will have some hiding spot's. You could try some apisto's like cockatoo's, but they do prefer more acidic water's. Make sure you re-arrange the tank before you put ANYTHING in!

I have one Krib, and 4 Rams, along with some other kind of Cichlids, and 3 Madagascan Rainbows. No one bothers anyone except for my Krib and Jalo, but they don't always bother one another. Speaking of Blood Parrots, WalMart for some reason sell them now.

None of our walmart's sell fish anymore. Im kinda sad becasue he did have a okay( petsmart like one) right outside of town and their fish were dirt cheap adnd healthy for the most part.

Yeah, our WalMart here stopped selling them.. It was on the news or paper that they had to stop `cos the water was so bad, that people's fish died soon after they bought them. Now they have again all what they've had before, plus the Blood Parrots. No one has bought any of the BPs yet, and they've been there for a couple weeks. They say the water got bad `cos the fish attendents are never around keeping an eye on stuff, and they're not even around when you go to buy a fish. Sad thing is, the attendents are still never around, even after all that trouble they had with their fish dying. :/ I dunno the name of this saltwater fish... it has kind of the shape of an Angel fish, and it has blue and white swirls. Some PetCo somewhere in the US did not tend to its water and it slowly died. :grr:
