Hi,
I have recently purchased 2 male and 2 female Kribs who are settling in fine.
I was wanting to add some tetras neon or similar to stop their aggression when breeding, How many would be recommended to go with them ( the tank capacity is fine )

Also what is the kribs favorite live food?

Thanks
Becks.

Yeah, if you have the four kribs and ten neons then that would look great and the neons would be happy. Make sure you have plenty of hiding places - plant pots are great for this because kribs like to set up their own territories and hide when being chased.

my kribs (when theyr getting on) love brine shrimp and water fleas, also have a little bit of a taste for mosquito larvae, but all of these are normally treats and not part of the normal diet.

for breeding kribs put the temp up a little to about 27 - 28c and if you can get some coconut caves with java moss on top they will be more than happy to use for berrding, if not ceramic plant pot with the main open end up agains the tank window / wall and a 2inch hole to enter and exit !!!! has worked in 2 of my tanks so far, tho my eldest kribs seem to be having a little bit of an argument at the moment,

Acoording to a Litre to gallon conversion i did( sorry, im american) that is about a 20 tank. That is a BIG NO NO. You dont ever put 4 kribs in a 20g tnak. I would take a pair back and get some tetra's. Is your tank cycled? How long has it been set up? Also, if you want to keep both pairs, i would suggest at least a 30g tank( 136 litre's, again, i used a converter!).

I will look further into if the tank is big enough, I didnt think that this would be overstocked at all ?? Is it that there will not be enough room for them when they are breeding , showing more aggresion? Pet shop who I have used before and always seem very very knowlageable said that they would be perfectly ok and I always try and research well BEFORE i buy.

They are all doing fantastic at the moment and do not seem in anyway streessed etc ... The tank is fully cycled .. this one has been up and running for at least three years .... and I check levels regulaly (with a liquid test kit) before doing weekly waterchanges.

The have had BBS today and gobbled them up very quickly, the shoal of tetras are keeping themselves seperate to them and are not getting any harrasment.

kribs are terretorial and like their "own" space and hide holes, if another krib or fish goes near what they see as their own territory they will chase them away, even more so when breeding, the female will often remain in the cave while the male guards it like it housed the crown jewels, as soon as anything comes nr the cave he will defend, then when they have fry they will often not keep them in the same hide out but another and again if this area has been "claimed" there will be trouble, you need a fairly large floor space to house two paired kribs that are breeding.
