I have a 20 gallon tank with:

Krib pair
3 Platys
3 Cherry Barbs
1 Bristlenose
2 Corys
1 Female apisto caca
2 Honey Gouramis

The kribs have recently bullied the male apisto i had to death :( , he was quite small and was chased a bit. Should I get another male to go with my female or return the female?

They are all juveniles in the tank.

2 pairs of cichlids in a 20 gal is a definite no no

so no,

and your kribs will probably breed soon

Also when the kribs breed which they proabbly will do if they are male/female they will proably not only kill your Female apisto caca but most likely the corys, bristlenose(possibly), platys... well any fish that comes in their territory.

not necessarily true.

My kribs didnt kill anything when they breed, no corries, no platties, no pleco, no nothing.

Make the corries and pleco an area with alot of rocks, and the platties a big planted area. then put a put in the opposite side of the tank with a whole carved in the side, like one of those breeding pots at

Well it all depends on the individual krib in the end, right? Plus your tank may be a large tank, where the kribs may not feel as threatend because of the more room they have?

Like abyatt has said, the krib has already killed an apisto so therefore i wouldnt bet against it fighting/killing something else.

We are talking about a 20gallon dont forget, the fish wont have to travel far to get in the kribs territory.

Like dwarf dude said, you can only keep one pair of cichlids in a 20gallon. You need to decide which pair of cichlids you want to keep and rehome the other pair.

Um, mine is a 29 gallon which is the same foot print as a 20

I wouldn't say the Krib killed the apisto, when I was watching they seemed ok, occasionally the krib would move over and chase slowly shepherding the apisto away from the plant pot the pair inhabit. It wasn't really aggresive or anything, but i get your points the female apisto is only very small (around 1 inch) and the krib male is about 2 inches.

I think it would be a smart idea to return her to the shop before she gets lonely more than killed!

I have had the Kribs about 6 months and at their current size they are fine, but I know they get larger.

They have made an overturned plant pot their home and a few weeks ago the female spent a lot of time in there with the male going in and out, but I havent seen anyhing else. I am not sure what I am supposed to do, I don't want to disturb it to check if there are eggs in there. What do you all suggest? Will I see Fry? Or are my Corys going to try and eat the eggs whilst the kribs are out?

the male wont let the corys near his "house" No eggs will be eaten.

Don't worry about checking, in my case the first signs are proud parents taking thier babies for a swim.

Oh and Never keep two types of dwarf cichlid in the same tank! they always will be competeing for the same thing and really neither will be happy if they cannot decide on territorys

oh and 4 inches of territorial fish can be a handful!

Hi,

please see my sig below...pair german blues, pair bolivians, pair kribs

Blue rams been in for months (female just laid eggs two days ago), bolivans and kribs in for just a week and so far no problems.

I take it from this thread that I should probably expect was to break out some time soon. :-(

Should I be thinking of removing the kribs or the bolivians or both?? :dunno:

let me know

cheers

yes you should, if you do infact have pairs they will all breed and all hell will brake loose in your tank, i suggest you reconsider yor stocking options

Well I took the Apisto back to my lfs and the kribs are going into mating mode again i think, all colours have come out and the female is doing her little 'sex' dance at the male which is amusing to watch.

One question...will the kribs fry be big enough to not be eaten by the other fish? Platys cherry barbs and honeys liek their live food!

should always be a few that will make it and compared to most they grow big fast so should be ok
