My boyfriend was looking after a friends Kribensis and seems to be stuck with them. We live together.
On the weekend he went out and bought a female for the male.

The male seems quite agressive to the female and she isn't doing well. I've sinced moved her into her own luxury 10 gallon.

They were housed in a ten gallon aquarium with java fern, driftwood and an overturned terracotta pot. There are also 2 flying foxes to try and convince them out of hiding.

Anyway, my theory is that the tank isn't anywhere big enough for the two of them. Since the male has been on his own for several months (with the flying foxes) he's established a fairly defined territory that doesn't include a lady. Is this a feasible theory?

We would like to try to breed them. What size aquarium is ideal for this? Will they form a pair in a larger aquarium even though he clearly seems to be intent on hurting her?

I'm new to fish so it's hard to help. I have read on a few pages that when introducing a territorial fish to taken territory it's a good idea to rearrange everything in the tank to create a new home for everyone. Others with more exp are sure to jump in here behind me.

What size is the tank? Kribs do that sometimes. Just take the male out, dn introduce the female( re-arrange the tank first) and then let the male in a few days later. What size is the tank? They need a minnimum of 15g to breed. There fry are large and robust. I would say a minnimum with the flying foxes is a 25g tank.

They are each in their own 10 gallon end to end. They spend their days beside each other looking through the glass, in it's own way it's kind of sweet.

Do they need to be together to raise fry? If they've already mated, can the female raise the fry on her own?

When reintroducing them together, would it be better to let the female establish a territory then add the male (to give her the upper hand)
Or to put them in a totally different aquarium at the same time?

Also, is it possible that this is just not a compatible couple/male. According to the friend of my boyfriend who had this fish before we did, he killed his previous mate. Could this Krib simply be too agressive, even with the ladies?

thanks.
