Hi everyone

I have a bonded pair of Kribs in my community tank. Its relatively new tank but is cycling using a established filter from another tank and water quality is good.

Anyway at the moment they share their tank with a pair of swordtails, a lone silver Molly female and a small Golden Loach (I hope to add to the numbers in the future)

I have a deep cave which is half buried in the gravel and a bridge type thing. Up till now everything has been peaceful and they have only been in the set up since Friday.

Since this morning the female Krib has become quite territorial and wont let any of the other fish near the bottom. She is single handly 'guarding' the whole of the tank bottom but not one specific site i.e the cave.
The male just swims around behind her all the time and doesnt seem bothered by 'intruders' :)
Also a large 'hollow' has been constucted under the bridge thing overnight where before the gravel was quite flat.

Now I know that Kribs can be aggressive when breeding but she seems to be guarding the whole bottom third of the tank and my understanding is that Krib females disappear and fan the eggs for 5 days in a cave or similar while the male does the guarding outside.
The guy I got them off of says he never had any luck breeding this pair at all.
Is this breeding behaviour after only being in the tank for 3 days? Or has she decided that the bottom third of the tank is her and her mates territory? i didnt realise that they were very territot=rail unless they had eggs/young.

Now should they do actually produce eggs/fry then should I remove the swords and Molly and Loach to protect the fry? I understand that they make good parents usually and I would dearly love to have some young Kribs. They are such beautiful special little fish.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Excuse my typos :/

The last pair of kribs I had spoined within 5 hours of being put in a different tank. Some time just the change in water is anough to start them. They make very good parents and will chase the other fish away, so if possible I would remove the other inhabitants. It would seem that your kribs are getting ready to breed. Hope this little bit of inof helps
